A Certain Romance is a solo painting exhibition by Riley Waite, a Portland based figurative oil painter and current Emerging Artist in Residence at An Táin Art Centre. The collection showcases portraits and landscapes that reflect his return to Ireland, evoking a deep understanding and appreciation for his heritage while challenging his adolescent views. As a diasporan artist who once lived in Ireland, Riley poetically explores the intriguing Irish youth sub-culture as a sociological phenomenon, juxtaposed with the profound beauty of rural Ireland. Through his exploration of paint, he invites viewers to delve into the intricate narratives beneath the surface, offering a certain romantic journey through the heart of the Irish diaspora.
