Lijuan McQuillan is An Táin Arts Centre’s 7th Emerging Visual Artist in Residence. ‘A Point on the Circle’ is a work in progress exhibition of paintings, by An Táin Arts Centre’s Emerging Visual Artist in Residence 2022, Lijuan McQuillan. The inspiration for this exhibition was the artist’s journey during her residency. Battling with a need for perfection and rigidity, as someone inhabiting both Eastern and Western cultures and producing art from that space, the artist arrived at a ‘point in the circle’ where integrating her life experience in both China and Ireland was her core objective and taking inspiration from the Irish landscape and hay-bailing and the mid-Autumn festival in China which also takes place this time of year became the main focus for this exhibition. The artist has responded instinctively to the simple magnificence of nature around her through her painting. This body of work represents the ‘point in the circle’ of the artist’s life both professionally and personally. This work in progress exhibition was created during An Táin Arts Centre’s Emerging Visual Artist in Residency Programme and contains some previous work by the artist also.
