A new play by Dara McCluskey about legendary Irish theatrical couple Edwards and Macliammoir gets its first public reading at An Táin Arts Centre.
Hilton Edwards and Micheal Macliammoir founded the Gate Theatre in Dublin in 1928 and ran it as a cutting-edge art theatre for the next 50 years, scandalising church, state and artistic establishments and launching many artistic careers including Orson Wells and Brian Friel.
Their incredible story is told in vivid style in Dara McCluskey’s new play which is read by professional actors, directed by An Táin Arts Centre Director Paul Hayes who provided dramaturgical advice for its writing. Dara McCluskey was An Táin Writer in Residence in 2021. Admission is free and all are welcome, the reading and writing of The Boys was supported by the Arts Council and Louth County Council.
