Jaro Waldeck – Filmmaker
1 February - 30 April
Jaro Waldeck is a cinematographer from the Czech Republic, living and working in Ireland. She works predominantly in scripted narrative films and documentaries, and has shot numerous shorts and music videos. Jaro is an educator (currently engaged as a cinematography teacher at Griffith College), also works as a stills photographer on films and TV series, and serves on the board of Women in Film and TV Ireland.
She has completed undergraduate and graduate studies in cinematography at Columbia College Chicago and FAMU Prague, respectively, and is an active member of the Czech Society of Cinematographers. Her first drama feature “Dreamtown” is beginning its festival run in 2024.
During the residency, Jaro will develop a pre-production package for a short film project. The time spent An Táin Arts Centre will allow her to deliver a final draft of her script and a subsequent technical shooting script and storyboards. She hope to also connect with local filmmakers who could come onboard as crew for the film, to conduct location scouts with a locations manager, and to meet actors and organise casting auditions. At the end of the residency, Jaro wants to have a complete pitch package to help her secure funding for the short film.
Jaro is in residence at An Táin Arts Centre during February – April 2024
